I am a follower of Adam Rifkin's career in films. He is almost like a low budget woody allen with the speed in which he makes films. His output has usually been more ok then good, but i will give him credit as a writer-director. He has a wide range and good ideas. He's very creative. He can jump from kids films to a sex comedy, From a bleak drama to a teen comedy. He always also has a eclectic mixture of stars for his cast. I can't be the only one who follows his career because people see his work and keep giving him money to make films.
This film is a failure though. Ali Larter must have done this film right before her success in the television show HEROES. Which would be the only reason she would choose to be ion this project. The film has a all star cast. Who are good in bits. Mr. Rifkin himself stars bin this film as a caveman who is a forward thinker and inventor who doesn't fit in with his tribe and is in love with his best friend.
The film is sort of like a early Woody Allen movie a character out of time and his element reacting to life around them comedically(Think LOVER & DEATH) It works on that level but then it easily goes for stupidity and gross out jokes. Then since it's a National Lampoon movie makes up for the lack of nudity by near the end of the movie having the caveman stumble onto a cavegirl lesbian tribe, Who are topeless and choose to bathe him. Sorry 'fellas Ms. Larter does not show any nudity.
The film is noticeably low budget. It looks cheap even for a prehistoric caveman film, ?But it is a cute movie, Not good but cute plus what do you expect the film was made in 17 days with a bare bones script with alot of improv, unfortunately he is not Judd Apatow (Knocked Up)
The film Didn't start out as a National Lampoon movie but they bought the rights to distribute it and fits right into their criteria. The original Title was STONED AGE.
