The following is just an opinion. As I am not a member of the academy, nor in any voting capacity. This is based off of the movies i have seen this year. Now I haven’t seen all the nominated movies. So part of this is based on buzz also.

MAD MAX: FURY ROAD
I am surprised Ennio Morricone got the nomination for THE HATEFUL EIGHT considering he has admitted that most of it is discarded scores for other films he has done. Like THE THING. I am not as surprised with John Williams for STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKWENS as it seems mandatory that he always be nominated and even though he re-used the main theme and some would say that it is in the spirit of the film reusing plot and story elements of the original trilogy.
