CARRIERS (2009)
Written & Directed By: Alex Pastor & David Pastor
Cinematography By: Benoit Debie
Editor: Craig McKay
Cast: Chris Pine, Lou Taylor Pucci, Piper Perabo, Christopher Meloni, Emily VanCamp
The film is set post apocalypse as a virus is killing most people two brothers one girlfriend and a girl they picked up travel the roads like scavengers armed and ready for whatever comes. Sort of like ZOMBIELAND except more dramatic and no zombies and comedy.
The film manages chills and thrills while maintaining a PG-13 rating which as black as bleak as this movie is, is very impressive. The film does well to amp up the paranoia every few minutes to keeps you interested and on the edge of your seat. It’s not violent but when it does get to that point it’s always shocking. Though not excessive.
The film has a bunch of heartbreaking scenes as you get to know the characters and identify them they make serious decisions and their choices though cruel tend to be necessary we lose a little respect for them though put in the same circumstances though I’m not sure we would behave in the same way or worse. I really respected the fact that the filmmakers decided to make that choice to not make the character idealistic and likeable and made them more realistic. The film just like the character are aimless just traveling looking for a place to stay instead of having a intended final destination that will be there intended salvation or looking for a cure for the disease that is taking over and infecting the world.
I like that the movie flirts with having villains before it settles and shows that the group we are following are the heroes ns the villains. They are literally there own worst enemies depending on the situation.
A good rental
